Bishop's Round-Up for Hunger

Bring to Worship on October 25, 2009
ROUND UP FOR HUNGER NEEDS
It is not too early to begin gathering items complete health kits,
school kits, layettes diapers, paper supplies, clothing (infant,
children or adult). Margaret Botts will be serving in the role that
Homer Parker occupied for many years. Food will be sent to our
local food basket ministry, cash will be sent to the Financial
Assistance Short Term (FAST) ministry at the Independence
Community Access Center to help with rent, utilities, and other
acute needs. School kits will be sent to our local school district.
Other kits and clothing will be taken to Lawrence on November
14. Lists of items needed are available at the volunteer desk and
posted on our church website.
Food is critical this year. Commercially
prepared, no commodities or glass jars.
All food collected will be given to the local
food basket to be distributed within the
Independence community.
When purchasing food items, please purchase
regular sizes of foods you and your family
like.
Health Kits (new items only)
1 bath towel
1 wash cloth
1 comb or brush
1 bar of soap
1 tube of tooth paste
1 toothbrush (packaged)
Shampoo
Deodorant
Wrap inside towel, tie securely, or put in 2
gallon self-closing plastic bag.
School Kits
2 unsharpened pencils with erasers
2 wide line theme book or notebook
1 eraser (pink)
Small scissors (blunt)
1 box of 24 crayons
1 box colored pencils
1 small tube of glue
Washable markers (8 colors)
Put all items in a 2 gallon self-closing
plastic bag.
all school kits will be distributed within
the Independence community.
Layettes - (new items only)
2 receiving blankets
2 sleepers
Baby wipes
Baby soap
Baby socks
Blanket
Wrap inside blanket and tie securely.
Diapers - Disposable diapers in all sizes
(Pack separately from Layettes)
Bedding - Good clean sheets, blankets and
pillowcases.
Paper Supplies - Toilet Paper
Birthing Kits - Shirley and Joe Edgerton, who are
serving as Volunteers in Mission in Haiti, have
indicated a need for Birthing Kits.
1 hotel-size bar of soap )1 oz. and up)
1 pair of clean latex gloves
1 square yard of clear 4 mil plastic sheeting
3 pieces of clean string each 12" long (dental
floss)
1 clean single use razor blade (carefully
wrap the blade in paper or plastic to protect
it and keep it from causing injury)
2 flannelette receiving blankets, each 1
square yard.
Place these items in a sealed one-gallon
plastic bag.
Toys and Games
Toys and games for all ages, especially teens.
Infants and Children Clothing -
Clean, usable clothes for boys and girls; infant
clothes are in greatest need.
Adult Clothes
Clean, usable mens and womens clothes are
needed.

All monetary gifts will remain in Independence
and will be used through the local FAST
program.

Peace begins when the hungry are fed.
