Lay Leadership
The Lay Leadership Committee is currently inviting persons to serve on administrative and program committees for 2008.
The vows of church membership imply that each person offers his/her service in some capacity. Most persons serve at least three years on the committee to which they are elected, with a new class coming onto the committee each year. This rotation provides continuity for the work of the committee while introducing new people to the ministries of the church. The Lay Leadership Committee strives to include persons of all ages with diverse gifts and perspectives. Non-members may also serve except in those places where membership is required by the Book of Discipline. Those who are invited to serve on a board or committee will be elected at the annual all-church conference on November 29 and will begin their term on January 1, 2008.
Many persons do not wish to serve on a committee but are willing to assist with projects. The Lay Leadership will try to find ways to connect persons willing to serve with those who might be working in an area compatible with their gifts. Please contact Pastor Jack or Marilyn Gregory or e-mail the church at fumcindy@cableone.net if you would be willing to serve.
The following choices can be used as a guide:
1. I would like to serve on one of the administrative committees of the church such as: Administrative Board, Finance, Trustees, Membership, Endowment, Staff Parish Relations, or Lay Leadership
2. I would like to serve on one of the program committees such as: Council on Ministries, Education, Stewardship, Discipleship, Worship, Mission Outreach, UMW, Adult Council, Youth Council, Children's Council, Senior Adults, Preschool, Media Team
3. A Covenant Prayer in the Wesleyan Tradition
I am no longer my own, but thine.
Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be employed by thee or laid aside for thee,
Exalted for thee or brought low for thee.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and heartily yield all things
To thy pleasure and disposal.
And now, O glorious and blessed God,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
Thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it.
And the covenant which I have made on earth,
Let it be ratified in heaven. Amen
