Angel Food Ministries: Once a month, you (or someone you want to help) can be blessed with fresh meats, fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables, and staple items at an extremely low price! It’s all fresh, top quality, name brand products, shipped from the manufactures to the Angel Food Ministries HQ in Monroe, GA, and then to our area on refrigerated trucks. Calling & Caring: The Calling & Caring Ministry supports the church family during crisis, life changes and everyday living through visitation, phone calls, notes and other help. The committee supports the homebound and nursing home family as well. The group lifts up, helps and celebrates ministries already being done in this area by others.
Christians United Feeding Friends (C.U.F.F.) is a FREE meal provided by community congregations for anyone who wishes to attend. Meals will be served at Church of the Epiphany, Episcopal at 6 pm. on Thursday evenings. Our church takes its turn in the rotation in preparing and serving the meal.
Commodities: Surplus government commodities are distributed to the needy in our community. Dates and times are published in the Independence Daily Reporter. Volunteers from the church support this effort. Contact Ann Schwatken 331-0277.
F.A.S.T. (Financial Assistance Short Term): is a program of the Independence Ministerial Association that helps Independence residents who need short-term financial help. The F.A.S.T. office is located at the Community Access Center.. It is financed by donations from several churches in the community. This ministry can assist with shelter, utilities, some meds and other special needs for low income families one time per year. Maximum assistance is $100 per family for "a hand up not a handout." Hours of operation Monday through Friday from 9am - 1pm. Appointments required, contact F.A.S.T. at 620-331-4719. Support by giving to FUMC and mark "Good Samaritan Fund" on the memo line.
Food Basket Ministries is a program of the Independence Ministerial Association that helps individuals and families who need food. Located at 307 1/2 West Pecan. Hours of operation are Mondays, 11am-1pm, Wednedays, 1pm-3pm and Fridays, 3pm-5pm. Contact The Food Basket at 620-331-8572.
